Glenn Ligon, “There’s a kind of slowness and inefficiency about rendering text in paint. We’re in a world that’s very fast, so things that slow you for a minute-give you pause- are good.”

Is this true? Michael Lewis… comments on indifference in museum spectatorship today. Is this based on the opinion that objects should be more venerated in the space of an institution or a shift in cultural opinion on what (and who) deems judgement and value in art?

“our society can no longer distinguish — effectively distinguish — between a Harley-Davidson Sportster and a 3,000-year-old golden mask from Egyptian New Kingdom, (and) can’t make a qualitative judgment about intrinsic value.”

Is that necessary to experience beauty?
